Who are we?

Compass trailer 2019

Compass, the LGBTQIA+ foundation of TU/e, provides a fully inclusive community for LGBTQIA+ people, as well as straight cis friends and allies! Our goal is to celebrate diversity and provide inclusivity and support of like-minded people. Our events are open to all and centered around LGBTQIA+ topics.

Why found Compass?

We wanted to create a cooperative effort to unite staff and student resources towards improving the value of diversity at TU/e, and Compass was founded with the aim of establishing such community.

As Compass, we can be a positive influence for change at the TU/e by showing our visibility as a LGBTQIA+ community, and thanks to our events, we can bring people together and be known to more LGBTQIA+ people at the university, further encouraging support and diversity.

Why the name Compass?

The name ‘Compass‘ represents a community which is an open group coming from many diverse directions regarding gender, sexual and romantic orientations and identities. Also, a compass is a technical instrument that helps you to reach your own destination, a metaphor about personal development and support, which we strive to achieve with our community.

What committees does Compass have?

At Compass we have an Event Committee, where we organize our monthly events; an Intro Committee, for Introduction Week events; SAM Support Team, which provides support and a listening ear for our community; Buddy System, which is a network of support for people who feel uncomfortable coming to our events alone; and the NB/Trans Group, a group specifically for NB/Trans people to discuss experiences and arrange meetings.

What kind of people come to Compass’ Events?

Everyone is welcome at our events, LGBTQIA+ people and straight cis friends and allies! Our events are filled with students (mainly from TU/e), alumni, staff members and our friends!
